Olympic Frustration

Posted by thearrow on August 15, 2008

Watching the Olympics in a country other than your own is an underwhelming experience. I’m happy I’m not in Romania, which for the most part drives me nuts, but I’m still attached to it to a certain extent. So when I turn the TV on these days and I inevitably see only coverage of the American team, I lose my interest at some point. I like the side stories by reporters on the ground, I like the excitement, but not being able to watch the Romanian team is disappointing.

I’m with you on that, because Team GB was just ahead of us at the opening ceremony I didn’t even get to see our team. Not to mention that just like you sayhere is all about “team GB”. To hell with everyone else – and one more thing that drives me mad – why do they say England when football is concerned and GiiiBiii at the Olympics?!

I’m not blaming them for not showing other countries’ athletes (who should they show first?); I’m just bitching about it 🙂 Not sure what the solution could be other than streaming over the Internet and I think Romanians should be the first to do this. After all, more than 2 million Romanians live abroad.

Funny that the Brits say England when talking about football but GB when talking about the Olympics; they probably have a sense of ownership over the game that they don’t want to share with anyone else.
